THE FREESTYLE COMEDY DUO CRUMBS has been making people smile, laugh and pee themselves since 1997. This improv duo sees Stephen Sim and Lee White making up entire stories and characters based on your suggestions. They have toured all over Canada and Europe playing festivals, performing shows and teaching improv workshops along the way. At Parties the CRUMBS perform a "WHOSE LINE" type show based on suggestions from the audience. Guests are also invited to join the group for prizes and hilarity that you'll be talking about for the rest of the year. CRUMBS has won many international improv awards, including: -2004 Improvaganza International Improv Tournament Champions in Edmonton -2005 Catch23 Tournament of Wonders Champions in Toronto -2006 FIFA World Cup of Improv Gold Medal Winners in Germany CRUMBS prides itself on being able to do any show, anytime, anywhere. They can do a set of improv comedy in short bursts, in one long story, using audience suggestions and even audience volunteers. Whatever your event calls for, CRUMBS then makes it hilarious. They have impressed thousands, you won't be an exception. CRUMBS is the improv comedy theatre duo hailing from the cold lonely prairies of Canada. Stephen Sim and Lee White have been working together in the comedy biz since 1989-1990 but have been using the CRUMBS name since 1997. The duo have toured all over the world including: Berlin, Vienna, Graz, Ljubljana, Zurich, Winterthur, Antwerp, Hamburg, Heidleburg, Mannheim, Frankfurt, Munich, Toronto, Vancouver, Seattle, Regina, and of course Winnipeg. You can always catch CRUMBS live on the radio or on the internet by tuning in to their radio show. Mondays at 5pm CST on 101.5 UMFM or log on to www.umfm.com. The show is a live call-in show tat is never the same twice and is unlike any radio you hear anywhere. Winnipeg fringe success! Lots of people enjoy CRUMBS and the critics even give it a fair shake. Is this now thw kiss of death for CRUMBS? Have they lost their edge? The Big Stupid Improv Show also enjoyed success, as it was named best of the fest in venue #1, of course that extra show on the last Sunday at noon was to 14 people. Oh well, it was a very fun show. CRUMBS now moves on to the Edmonton Fringe festival playing nightly at the wonderful urban Lounge and Whisjey Grill, 7pm on most nights, there are two nights where the show is at 8pm, these will be special shows. CRUMBS also looks forward to theatresports and Gorden's Big Bald Head jam shows as well (the Edmonton Big Stupid Improv Show).

The trio, while mostly focused on a freestyle long form of improv, have also been known to write some comedy as well. Lee, Stephen & Devin have been performing together since 1992 and have been together as CRUMBS since 1997. They love what they do.

Winnipeg offers a beautiful vantage point for the creation of really strange art. The improv duo consists of two actors. Other members include videographers, musicians, photographers, webmasters, illustrators, producers, agents, publicists, graphic designers, costume designers and hair and make-up artists. CRUMBS prides itself on stealing the ideas of many many other people and making the ideas their own. Since forming in 1997, they have been to countless festivals, taken part in countless shows and been a part of countless workshops where they have experienced countless wonderful things (and stolen them). Constantly fighting over what to do next, the friction produces a heat which keeps them volatile and keeps them from becoming boring. Perhaps this is a good thing, perhaps they will kill each other. A CRUMBS show is a show about the performers as well as the non-linear, absurd, hilarious, surreal, character driven, pretty, pathoes, ugly, collage of scenes that make up the story, - and its fun too.

During the Winnipeg fringe, CRUMBS tackled suggestions like tactile, twin towers and teen pregnancy (there were also some others that didn't start with the letter "t" but they were few and far between). It will be interesting the compare the audiences from Winnipeg and Edmonton. Who will give the perfect suggestion, who will yell dildo most (note: dildo numbers are down this year, maybe there is a shift happening?). Still, enjoy the 101.5 umfm Monday noon hour you have with CRUMBS, it will go on hiatus while they are in Edmonton, but will continue after their triumphant return (we hope triumphant). Check out umfm.com for live streams on mondays.

Upcoming shows in the hometown (Winnipeg, that is), look for a Big Stupid Improv Show on Friday Sept 20th at the Gas Station Theatre. You can also count on a CRUMBS show on Saturday Sept 21st at the Gas Station Theatre. Both these shows will rock some ass (so bring your ass). Then it is time for the Winnipeg Improv Festival 2002! (Gas Station Theatre presents of course) oh shit... Fri & Sat Oct 4-5 at the Gas Station Theatre, with the pre-fest Big Stupid jam of a bunch of folks Thur-Sun Oct 10-13 the actual festival, at the Gas Station theatre, tons of shows, maybe to many shows, local improvisers, national improv troupes (Edmonton, Toronto, Regina, Vancouver) and possibly one from Seattle. More details to come soon....

*****-GABRIELLE GIRODAY, WPG FREE PRESS 2005
“Stephen Sim and Lee White are at the height of their improv powers”
“Accompanist Craig Bjerring is perfectly tuned to their unspoken cues and heightens the drama and laughter with his subtle soundtrack and occasional musical interludes.”
“It’s hard to say what makes CRUMBS so good. Maybe it’s the zen-like concentration with which they juggle their multiple characters. Or maybe it’s their uncanny ability to build ridiculous metaphors on the fly. Or maybe it’s the way they make the audience complicit in the process of creating comedy, so even when they step out of character, hilarious things happen. Whatever the reason, the CRUMBS are on fire.”
*****-IRIS YUDAI, CBC 2005
“They’ve turned down the suck and turned the funny up to 11.”
